In Matthew 12:42, Jesus says, "...a greater than Solomon is here. Keep that in mind as we consider some final thoughts on 1 Kings 10.
As the Queen of Sheba CAME to Solomon, notice that:
1) He Was ADMIRED - Having heard of his wealth and wisdom, she showed great admiration by coming to him with her "hard questions". As believers, we do not have to be afraid of "hard questions", for those who ask them must think enough of us to believe we just might have the answers. We are to always be able to give an answer to anyone who asks concerning the faith that is within us. If it works for us, it can work for others.
2) He Was APPROACHABLE - The last couple of days I wrote of my atheist friend. Once as a high school teacher I mentioned my atheist friend and some of the Christian kids were shocked. "Dr. Phil" how could you have such a friend as a Christian? I never cease to be amazed at Christian Isolationism. Instead of going where sinners are we expect them to come where we are. Billy Sunday use to go into bars to preach the gospel. Bartenders were saved. Barmaids were saved. Bars were shut down. We want those sinners to come to church to get saved. The mindset of the modern Christian is to let the fish come to you instead of going fishing where the fish are. Imagine the pastors in your area down in crack town, on the streets reaching addicts for Jesus. Sorry, friend, but it ain't gonna happen. We are far too dignified today. We don't want to catch fish, we want to buy them at the market. We must be available and approachable.
3) He was AMAZING -
a) With his Answers - "Solomon told her all her questions" which is a way of saying he answered all she asked.
b) With his Attainments - "the house that he built" - "no one could do what this man has done, except God be with him" they said of Jesus.
c) With his Attendants - The attitudes, attentiveness, apparel, and his ascent were all orderly and respectful. Hmmm, Is that how we serve Jesus?
4) He was ABLE - Years ago we use to sing a little course that says, "He is able, He is able, Our Lord is able to carry us through." This ONE who is greater than Solomon is ABLE to do exceeding abundantly ABOVE all that we ask or think. Whom else do we NEED? What else should we WANT? Where else can we GO? How else can we LIVE? A greater than Solomon is here and He is ALMIGHTY! Come to HIM! Call on HIM! Cling to HIM! Conquer through HIM! Hallelujah what a Savior!
PRAYER: Precious Lord, YOU are all I need, and I thank you that I am Yours and YOU are mine. You are not just the King, but the King of kings!
