Morning Moments

Our Compass - I have been in the midst of the sea with no view of land.  I have been so high in the air that no land could be seen.  I have been in a vehicle in the midst of nowhere with only the sun or moon to aid in direction.  A compass enables us to gain clear direction.   We all have some understanding of the purpose of a compass.

There is a compass for life that serves the same purpose.  It is the Word of God!  It enables us to "find our way".  Let me give a practical example:  Some TV preachers, prior to the new millennium promoted the "storing up" of food and water, etc..  The COMPASS says "Give us this day our daily bread, God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus, be anxious about nothing, but thankful for everything," etc..  More recently, some of these same preachers said, "Katrina is God's judgment upon New Orleans," but have been silent about the hurricane, Gustav, on the Houston area, or the East Coast damage, when the Scripture says, God makes the rain to fall and the sun to shine on the just and the unjust.  He is the God of the elements, the environment, and all creation.  Why did not God bring the hurricane, or volcanoes, or drought to the rest of the country?  Evil is everywhere!  Why has not Washington, D.C. been hit by these natural disasters?  God knows the corruption there.

My point is that one of the warnings of false prophets is that they speak when God has not spoken.  You may have an opinion as well as I, but to say dogmatically that a particular environmental, economic, or energy crisis or catastrophe is God's judgment is a bit risky.  Maybe we (including believers) created or contributed to the abuse or misuse, or maybe we are simply living in areas where climatic conditions are conducive to such things.

The bottom line is that we in Christian ministry should understand that GOD hates sin everywhere and condemned it, but HE also put the sun, moon, stars, seas in place to GOVERN.
In these "last days" God has spoken once for all "in His Son."  I just think we should be dogmatic when the WORD of GOD is and understand that whether New Orleans, Dothan, or wherever, the elements, environment, and energy all differ drastically.
I am only sharing my thoughts and your are welcome to respond positively or negatively:)

PRAYER:  Father help me to be consistent in my preaching and teaching without creating confusion of which you are not the author.  Help me, O God, to understand that you have "appointed a day in which you will judge the world."  Teach me to be compassionate and not condemning, remembering that Jesus said, "God sent not His Son into the world to condemn, but to save".  Please help us (ME) to use my life and time wisely seeking to reach others and not reacting to things over which none of us has control with consternation, condemnation, and criticism.
