Morning Moments

With a bit of theological liberty, I like to think of the word "blessed" as having the favor of God resting upon you. Think of those Jesus said are "blessed". Having the favor of God rest upon you is quite different from being "happy". The Scripture says, "Blessed are they that mourn." Do you associate the word "mourn" with being "happy"? I don't.

Jesus was always 'blessed" of the Father, but He was certainly not always "happy". Can you imagine Him being "happy" with a whip in His hand cleansing of the temple? Of course not! Somehow we have cheapened the gospel in recent years by leading them to believe they should always be happy. It is as those who think one should always be wealthy or healthy. The Psalmist said, "I was glad that YOU afflicted me."

Scripture says that Jesus was "vexed" in His spirit. We often fail to see that the deeper our hurt, the greater God's favor rests upon us. I don't know if I am making this clear enough, but com-passion means with passion. Let's learn to do as God does who indwells us and anoints us, and hurt with those who hurt, as well a rejoice with those who rejoice.
