ECCLESIASTES
CHAPTERS 1-12
You can find a complete verse by verse devotional commentary on this book in the previous Morning Moments.
To understand the Book of Ecclesiastes, one must understand that all pursuits of man apart from God are futile. Man without God is always chasing rainbows, seeking for the proverbial pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, and left only to find that his pursuit only leaves him lonely and empty. Hence all is vanity and vexation of spirit.
The Examination of the Life of Vanity 1:1-11
The Evidence of the Life of Vanity 1:12-6:12
The Emptiness of the Life of Vanity 7:1-12:8
The Existence of the Life of Value 12:9-14
It is critical when reading this text that we NOT take it our of its context, for it can be confusing. The attempt to understand the vanity of man by the virtuous saint leaves us only to scratch our heads and ask, “What in the world are they thinking?”
BUT we must realize that without the presence of God in our lives through personal faith, life with its pleasures and pursuits, prosperity and positions, all are vain so far as eternity is concerned.
Hence, the conclusion of the matter: “Fear God (which for us means reverence, trust, faith) and keep his commandments (which for us means obey Him). PLAIN AND SIMPLE!
BLESSINGS!
