PSALMS IV
Psalms 90-106
THE EARTH AND THE NATIONS
Why one may ask was the fourth book of the Bible called NUMBERS, and how does this section of psalms in any way relate to that?
The true title of the fourth Bible book in Hebrew is literally “In the Wilderness” and NOT Numbers, but the name was given to the book by the Latin Vulgate, a translation of the name given by Septuagint translators.
This section of Psalms begins with the prayer of Moses, the leader of Israel out of Egypt and through the Wilderness to the Land of Rest.
REST: Lost and Needed - 90
REST: Desired - 91-94
REST: Anticipated - 95-100
REST: CELEBRATED - 101-105
REST: Lost and Valued - 106
If we are discerning, we can see why the Book of Hebrews also places such great emphasis upon this REST that God offered and that Israel forfeited because of their refusal to believe and trust God for what He had promised. “He is faithful who promised, who WILL do it.”
There is a “rest” that is given and a “rest” that is found according to Jesus (Mt 11:28-30). Many have come out of Egypt (bondage) REST, but have never entered Canaan (the Spirit filled life) REST!
BLESSINGS!
